Are you one among millions who is waiting for the next generation iPhone, presumably the iPhone 5. Well, you could never get to see the iPhone 5, simply because the next iPhone might be called the iPhone 6. Dumbfounded? Well, we are not crazy. There is a valid explanation as to why we think that the next iPhone will be called the iPhone 6 and not the iPhone 5. Find it below.
How Apple have named all their previous iPhones so far?
The original iPhone – The original iPhone was christened in the year 2007, after Apple announced the revolutionary phone after almost 30 months of testing, development and fine tuning. The world was overjoyed with the first touch screen phone from apple which also instantly became a huge fashion statement as well. In case you did not know, the “i” in the iPhone was actually used to indicate that the phone could connect to the Internet.
iPhone 3G – The iPhone 3G was called the 3G because it ran on the 3G network, which was revolutionary back then. The 3G suffix was given to allow people to instantly identify that the new iPhone was capable of downloading Internet data at 3G speeds.
iPhone 3GS – The iPhone 3GS got its name because the S denoted faster speed. The iPhone 3GS used a processor that was much quicker than the iPhone 3G and Apple specifically said that S denoted speed.
iPhone 4 – Well, the iPhone 4 was called the iPhone 4 simply because it was the fourth generation phone from Apple. This was probably the simplest logic that Apple has used so far, to name their iPhones.
iPhone 4S – While the world was waiting on the iPhone 5 to be released in late 2011, Apple dropped the news that they had come up with the iPhone 4S instead. Though Apple have not specifically made a statement about what the “S” means in the iPhone 4S, it is automatically assumed that the “S” is referring to faster speeds that are brought about by a dual core processor that was introduced for the first time in an iPhone.
There has also been some speculation that the “S” in the iPhone 4S actually represents “Siri”, another highlight of the iPhone 4S.Since there is no official word on the “S” and its significance, we just have to assume that it is one of the two.
The next iPhone
Now, we come to the tricky part. The general lay man or the general iPhone lover has long assumed that the next iPhone is going to be called the iPhone 5. However, technically, this would be a major gaffe if Apple indeed chose that name.
What sense does it make to call a 6th generation iPhone the iPhone 5? We don’t see any. It will be as though Apple is going backwards with the logic in naming their phones. There is also some speculation that the next iPhone’s name might not include a number at all. In fact, many leading industry analysts believe that the next iPhone will simply be called the “New iPhone”. Regardless of how silly you think that might be as a name for a high profile phone, there is a likelihood that it will happen as Apple called the iPad 3 the “New iPad” instead. They might just follow with that trend to name all their products from now on.
There are a few other possibilities as well. The next iPhone could be called the iPhone 4G or the iPhone LTE. There are some even crazier suggestions that the next generation phone from Apple will be called the iPhone SJ, in commemorative memory of the late Steve Jobs, founder and creator of the iPhone.
Only time will tell if the iPhone 5 will be called the iPhone 5 or the iPhone 6 or something completely new.
